Let’s travel back to England in the early 1980s. The picture below was taken in front of a supermarket, but we don’t know what town it’s in.
Which car(s) can you identify in this shot? Which one(s) would you most like to have in your garage? We’d take the yellow Renault 5, or the yellow Fiat 127.
Photo found on Pistonheads.
Could it be Southampton? Yellow Triump might be a Hampshire registration and yellow R5 could be registered to Eastbourne. Also on wall behind green botle bank it appears to say SVTHHAMTUM. Just a few wild guesses…
I’d have the yellow Fiat 127 as my dad owned one when I was a kid and I have fond memories of many happy journeys in it. It replaced a moss green 126 that my brother and I outgrew and was in turn replaced by a Morris Marina.
PS. I think I was right: http://www.heart.co.uk/southcoast/news/local/historic-southampton-mural-back-display/#bMRct8bPd5OxQmoI.97
Damn, good eye!
Photos of UK street scenes from the 1980’s always have so many desirable cars in them. I will take the gold Ford Fiesta. I am curious to know the make and model of the green saloon driving behind the parked cars.
Yoshi, the green car is a Triumph Toledo – like the yellow 1500 that’s close-by except for a shorter boot and smaller engine. I had one briefly – comfortable, but an awful rust-bucket. I’d go for the Wolseley 1500 next to the Datsun Cherry 100A, even though the Wolseley is a mk. 2 1500, the Ford Granada estate if (unlikely) it had a manual gearbox, either of the Ford Cortina mk. 2s and the VW Scirocco.
Max, thank you for the identification of the Triumph.
The golden Ford Fiesta! No doubts I’d have that

No one else wants the Granada Wagon? I’ll have that then!
