Ridden daily: BMW R80 G/S

Ran When Parked’s “driven daily” series aims to showcase original, unrestored classics that are still being used on a regular basis. Nothing says it’s limited to cars, and this BMW R80 G/S parked in a small town in northern Italy meets all of the criteria.

The R80 G/S’ period-correct red, white, and blue paint job caught my eye from a distance. The bike is clean, and it’s evidently been well maintained over the years, but it doesn’t look like it’s ever been fully restored. The paint work and the upholstery both show some patina, which adds character to what I consider one of the most timeless bikes of the 1980s. The luggage boxes suggest the R80 is used regularly, not just for the occasional leisure ride.
