I found the Saab Sonett V4 pictured below about a decade ago in a quiet part of Salt Lake City, Utah. I immediately parked the 900 Turbo I had at the time to get a closer look because it was the first Sonett V4 I’d ever seen outside of a car show or a museum; to this day, I’ve never seen another one.
Originally painted red, the Sonett was clearly someone’s project — or possibly a parts car — because the 1.5-liter V4 engine and the four-speed manual transmission were sitting right next to it. I initially thought it had been pulled out of a barn or a garage, but the fact that the engine was just as dusty as the rest of the car indicated it simply hadn’t left the carport I found it in for quite some time.
The chassis was rusty and the fiberglass body needed to be repaired in a few spots, but the Sonett was complete and relatively solid, all things considered. I never tracked down the owner and I haven’t got a clue as to what ended up happening to it.
the dealer in my area had a new one setting on the showroom floor for a long time. i also saw them being ice raced. but that was back in the day.
Any idea what happened to the new one? that’s cool!
no i do not know.
