I found the Peugeot 306 you see below a couple of weeks ago while picking olives on the outskirts of a small town. It’s admittedly a little newer than most of the cars we typically feature in our rust in peace series, but I couldn’t resist the urge to shoot a few pictures of it.

There’s no mystery surrounding this 306: It appeared in a field of olive trees after a night of heavy rain. The owner got in an accident on a main road and hid the car out in the countryside for one reason or another. The fact that it’s neither inspected nor insured — at least according to the stickers on the windshield — likely explain its current location, but you know what they say about judging a book by its cover.

What’s interesting is that the car hasn’t been claimed yet. I’m not surprised the owner hasn’t been back for it, but I would have figured the owner of the field it’s in would have had it removed, especially since October is olive-picking season. Instead, the driver-side window was busted and locals have been slowly dismantling it over the past three or so weeks. I haven’t driven past it since, but I’ve been told by a friend that there’s not a lot left of it today.
