We’re traveling back to Lyon, France, in the late 1960s. The picture below gives us a great idea of what the automotive landscape looked like at the time. At first glance it looks like the parking lot is full of French cars, but zoom in (it’s high-res!) and you’ll see there are quite a few German cars in the mix (including a Mercedes-Benz w108 hidden way in the back of the photo), a Volvo 142 and so on. Surprisingly, Beetles and Italian cars are few and far between.
What car(s) can you identify in this shot? What one(s) would you most like to have in your garage?
Photo kindly provided by the city of Lyon’s archives department.
Somewhere in the middle of the 3rd row. Looks like a dark colored Jaguar E-type.
i will take the xke, r10’s, r8 with 4 headlights, 142, matra/alpine/? ( white with stripe, front and center ), and beetles.
Up front is an Alpine A110, good eye.
Sad as I am if I had a TARDIS I’d go back to this sort of place and just wander around the car park looking and lusting after all these cars.
Think I’d struggle to get a long term Dr Who companion to accompany me on my “adventures ” though ha ha
