Open mic: What’s the most ambitious project you’ve ever taken on?

Long-time reader Ian S. recently sent us a picture of his next project: a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle. It ran when parked 20-years ago but time has not been kind to it and, the way Ian describes it, “every problem area is bad.” That includes the sheet metal that the bottom door hinges bolt to, the floors and, of course, the heater channels.

Many would pull the running 1200cc engine and scrap the rest, but Ian and his wife are planning to drop the body on a perfect pan, fix the worst of the rust and drive it as-is.

How about you, what’s the most ambitious project you’ve ever taken on?

  1. good luck with the beetle, it will take a lot of time and some money but you can still get all the parts. i kept a 79 rolls going for a few years. that took a lot of time/money but was not much fun.
