Morgan Motor Company is known internationally for its unique lineup of back-to-the-basics sports cars. The British automaker regularly updates its models but new cars don’t come around very often. When they do, we sit up and take notice.
The word out of Malvern, England, is that Morgan will travel to next week’s Geneva Motor Show to introduce a new sports car called Aero 8. The company is keeping full details under wraps until it is formally unveiled during the Geneva show but a series of teaser images give us a good idea of what to expect.
The Aero 8 will likely be nearly identical to both the Aero Coupe and the Aero Supersports from the tip of the front bumper to the base of the A-pillar. Beyond that, it will feature a classic three-box design that will set it apart from the Aero Coupe and make it look essentially like a fixed-roof version of the Aero Supersports. The dark teasers make it hard to tell whether or not the Aero’s rear end will be carried over to the new model.
A video published last week reveals that the show car’s interior will be upholstered with brown quilted leather. However, it goes without saying that buyers will be able to select other colors and/or materials.
Technical details have not been released yet. Morgan’s next car could use the Aero’s BMW-sourced 4.8-liter V8 engine, or it could follow the auto industry’s downsizing trend and opt for a smaller turbocharged mill. Regardless, power will be transferred to the rear wheels via either a standard manual transmission or an optional automatic unit.
Stay tuned, we’ll bring you more details about Morgan’s new sports car as soon as they become available.
