We’re traveling back to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1981. The picture below shows the parking lot of the Sioux Falls Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center a couple of days after a snow storm.
What car(s) can you identify in this picture? What one would you most like to have in your garage? We’d personally pick the first-gen Honda Civic parked next to the K5 Blazer on the left side.

t bird on the right, a cougar and a van in the back row.
From left to right: Chevy Blazer, Honda Civic, Plymouth Volare, Datsun 810, Chevy Caprice station wagon, Ford Thunderbird. Second row left to right: Datsun 310 (in back of the Civic), AMC Hornet, Chevy Caprice or Impala, Chevy Citation.
Some surprises in there – 1.) the Datsuns. Didn’t know conservative ass, isolated SD got cool Japanese cars so early. 2.) The Blazer, conversion van and Grand Marquis wouldn’t be out of place in today’s parking lot. Inversely, the 64? T-bird is quite the sight here.
