In the early days of the auto industry, black was often associated with the Model T and Henry Ford’s attempt to save money by adopting standardized production methods. Several decades later, black was found on official vehicles used by miscellaneous government agencies around the world because it’s a low-key color that doesn’t immediately stand out the way brighter colors do.
More recently, black has become a popular color among sports car buyers seeking an understated, low-key look. Modern paint techniques make it possible to obtain a nearly endless variety of shades including flat, clearcoated, metallic and so forth.
Which car do you think looks best in black?
RS500 for me please!

I think this looks pretty damn good in black also –
the gti, any benz or volvo
205 gentry was offered only in dark green metallic 😛
rs500 looks awesome but my choice is alpine turbo
I’ve always thought the Mk1 Rabbit GTI looked best in black. Wish mine was black instead of white.
Of course the 75/Milano should be rosso.
Black is such a flattering colour (for clothes and cars). Especially in cars that are more ‘aesthetically challenged’ as it hides any awkward details. And I always loved the oh-so-80s scheme of black with red pin striping to denote sportiness.
