Last year, we started a new series on Ran When Parked called “test your steel wheel IQ.” The point of it is to share our rather unorthodox passion for steel wheels and see how good our readers are at recognizing them.
Can you name the make and model that the following wheels come from? In some cases we have blacked out the logo on the center cap because it would have been too easy to guess otherwise. Also, there are several right answers for some of these wheels.
Have fun, and thanks for playing along.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
This is a pretty difficult edition…
1. Dodge Ram, 1. generation
2. No idea
3. Fiat 131
4. Citroen 2CV/AK400
5. Early Chevrolet Blazer
5 is a Blazer, yep.
3 and 4, you have the make right but not the model – quite close on both accounts, you’re in the right era.
Ok, another try then.
1. ca. ’65 Ford F100
2. Looks French, but I give up on this one.
3. has to be the Fiat 128, post-1975, then. Can’t find a picture of one with these wheels, but it’s the only option and door+bumper fit…
4. Citroen Dyane, I think. Kind of tricky without the chrome hubcap
It’s not a 128 but you’re really, really close.
4 is not a Dyane as all 2CV-derived cars had three-lug steel wheels. Want a hint?
Number 1 is land rover
2 No idea
3 Fiat 128
4 Citroen DS
5 Chevrolet Blazer
1, 4 and 5 are correct, good eye, especially since 1 was kind of tough.
3 is not a 128 but you’re very close.
I’m 100% confident about 1, but I don’t know any of the others.
1. Land-Rover (Series 3 88″)
4.Citroen 2CV ??
… And, yes, I can tell the difference between Series 2 and Series 3 and 88″ and 109″ wheels!
Hell of an eye you’ve got! I doubt I can do that, I’m not a Land Rover expert. What sets them apart, out of curiosity?
4 is not a 2CV, they all had three-lug steelies. You’re very close though.
Lets make that #4 easy:
’55-’67 DS/ID. From ’68-> it was 5 lug.
#5 is actually standard fit for any 3/4 ton Chevy truck from early ’80s and on.
Good eye on both the DS and the Chevrolet.
3. one 5 door Fiat 127
Congrats!
