Live from the Paris Motor Show: Honda Civic Hondamatic

honda-civic-The highlights of Honda’s stand at the Paris Motor Show included the new-for-Europe CRV, the slightly refreshed 2013 CRZ and a yellow Civic Hondamatic from the early 1970s.

Amazingly, the car that was displayed by Honda was registered, inspected and insured, which likely means that it doesn’t spend the bulk of its time under a tarp in a warehouse. It has evidently been the object of a very thorough restoration in the not-too-distant past and it looked absolutely flawless, a time capsule from a time when Honda was not a household name on the old continent.

Under the Civic’s hood lies an all-aluminum 1.1-liter four-cylinder gasoline-burning engine that makes 60 horsepower, a respectable amount considering the car’s tiny footprint and the era it is from. The Civic came standard with upmarket equipment like wiring for a stereo and a set of reverse lights mounted beneath the bumper.
