Ran When Parked got to spend the better part of a weekend in Bangkok, Thailand, on our way back home from a business trip in China. Having never been to Thailand before, we were impressed by all of the old cars that are still on the road. Continue reading »

Topical advertising: Car-based vans
Car-based vans have been incredibly popular in Europe since the end of World War II. Generally cheaper to buy, register and insure than larger vehicles, these city-friendly vans have been widely used as delivery vehicles, work mules and passenger haulers over the past couple of decades. Almost every automaker has offered one at one point … Continue reading »
Driven daily: Citroën 2CV4
We photographed this Citroën 2CV4 in a small town on a rainy Saturday morning. We’ve seen it driving around the area before, but we never managed to get up close to it until last week. Continue reading »
Abandoned in the countryside: Renault 17 TS
This Renault 17 is ending its days in the same ditch as yesterday’s Renault 4 TL. Although worn, the petal-shaped passenger seat and the Vert Algue (paint code 977) color indicate that this is post-facelift TS model built in 1979. Renault 17s are few and far between and stumbling upon one in any shape is … Continue reading »
Abandoned in the countryside: Renault 4 TL
We hiked for a few minutes to photograph a forlorn 1960s Renault 4 that we’ve known for years, and we were surprised that the ditch it’s in has been cleaned of all of its wild brush. While that certainly helped us take clearer pictures, it also revealed many more cars that we had previously missed. Continue reading »
Driven daily: Renault 6 TL
We’ve featured a Renault 6 in our “driven daily” series before, but this all-original 1974 example stands out from the rest partly because it is finished in a relatively uncommon shade of blue called Bleu Clair (paint code 410). The color was also offered on the 4 and the 5, among others, and Renault has … Continue reading »
The second annual Velaux Rétro car show
The city of Velaux, France, held its second annual car show last weekend. It was one of the first car local shows of the year which is risky because in April the weather can change for the worse with very little notice. However, the sun stayed out and the organizers’ gamble seemingly paid off: The … Continue reading »
Sunday classic: Volkswagen 1200 Jeans
Volkswagen went on a special edition spree in the early 1970s. Some, like the 1303 Big and the 1303 S GSR, were aimed at the top end of the Beetle market, but the Jeans was based on the smaller 1200cc model and targeted at a young audience. Introduced in late 1973 as a 1974 model, … Continue reading »
Peugeot 305, future classic or not?
Introduced in the fall of 1977, the Peugeot 305 signaled the arrival of a new family of models whose name ended in 05. The car’s Pininfarina-designed lines were modern for the era and many compared its front end to that of the Simca 1307/1308/1309 trio that was launched two years earlier. Continue reading »
Abandoned in the countryside: Renault 6
An acquaintance led us to this Renault 6 hidden deep in a small forest located between a medium-size town in France’s Bouches-du-Rhône department and the Mediterranean sea. Covered by a thick layer of dust and moss, the 6 was likely taken off the road following a mechanical failure. Continue reading »
